[REVIEW]: “Hereditary” (2018) did not disappoint in it’s creep factor

This is not what I expected my first film review on my blog to be about. My favorite horror films are typically dedicated to the masked killers who live in the slasher world of cinema.

But I have been avoiding this film for a while and decided to finally watch it all alone — in the dark. Why have I been avoiding it? Because everyone who has watched this film tells me its terrifying.

I’m a known horror movie fanatic but even I can get scared  — this film did the trick.

“Hereditary” made in 2018, is truly, a nail-biting drama horror film at its best. The story revolves around a family who starts off losing a loved one in the family, who is a very secretive woman. She is the grandmother of the two children and not much is said about her other then she “sunk her hooks” into the daughter — Charlie. She also has some strange paranormal books dealing with spirits. Tragedy follows this family for the entire film and halfway is finally when the horror comes alive through scenes in the film.

It all connects to a woman named Joan who helps the mother, Annie, with her grievances.

It seems innocent, but she puts the family under a curse in order to bring about a demon named Paigon.

The way the film was organized revving up the action in the last half of the movie — made me sucked into the action. I became attached to the characters, and I wanted them all to live. But it seemed like Paigon is unbeatable.

After watching the film I had lots of questions and went to Google to get the answers. What I like about this film is it’s confusing but it relies on the viewer to figure out what is happening to this family. Sometimes when horror films give you too much information they become boring, so boring to where you just rely on the gore to give it a good review. But this one had lots of substance to the storyline which I very much enjoyed.

I admit, after the film was over I had a hard time falling asleep. I became paranoid that a demon spirit would take over my body. So it definitely scared me.

This film was not a disappointment between the acting and storyline. It also had some zest with the orientation of the camera shots throughout giving hints as to what events will occur next. I have to give this film a 4 out of 5 stars.

What did you think of “Hereditary”? Did it scare you as much as it scared me? Did you think the storyline was strong? Leave your thoughts in the comments.
