New Winnie the Pooh movie is a “bloody” good time

“Well. I guess growing up sucks.”

That’s what one of the fellow movie goers announced at the very end of the screening of “Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey” (2023) this evening to the audience.

And I think they’re right.

I have no idea what my expectations were going into this film but it was not what I expected. I guess that’s the beauty of copyright freedom. Right?

I grew up with Winnie the Pooh, he was one of my favorite characters and I never would have thought as a 24 year old I would be sitting in a movie theatre watching Pooh become a slasher.

And boy does this film take the story of Winnie the Pooh into a dark little ole tale.

The beginning of the movie we find Christopher Robin as an adult trying to reunite with his old friends in the 100 Acre Wood. Only they aren’t what they used to be. And Eeyore. Well let’s just say Eeyore is gone…

Since Christopher Robin left his friends and went to become a doctor – Pooh and Piglett go rabid. Angry. Christopher Robin isn’t supplying his friends food anymore and because of that they lose it.

No more sweet Pooh bear or Piglett.

From start to end, this film has cheese written all over it. The budget was extrememly low for this film and it really shows. The masks for Pooh and Pigglet don’t look real and their outfits are ridiculous. Frankly they look half-man half-animal which confused my brain at times.

But wait – isn’t that what makes it humorous? I think the entire audience I watched the film with tonight would agree with me.

And it’s what makes the movie great.

Now moving on to the characters – I don’t even think I caught any of their names – have weak development throughout the entire movie. The protagonist has a weak end goal and that’s just to live. She has no personal development throughout the entire film. And Christopher Robin doesn’t either.

But also that’s what makes the movie great.

Oh and don’t forget the gore and cheesy kills. Shredding a body? Running over someone’s skull with a car? I got to hand it to the director he was pretty damn creative.

Having this film released in theaters for one night only made seeing this movie a treat, and it was amazing to get to experience this hilarious horror flick with a room filled with complete strangers. It felt like we were all there with one common goal. And that was to have a bloody good time.

I was so immersed into the environment of the film that leaving the theatre I felt like I was entering a new world. The story wasn’t believable but I think the fact that I grew up with Winnie the Pooh, my brain tricked itself into thinking this story is completely real.

Trippy right?

So if you’re in the mood for some major cheese, some blood and guts, some bad cinematography and bad plot – watch this movie.

But seriously – that’s what makes this film genius. And I can’t wait to see the next one.
